Usability Breakdown on Facebook

Thing like this just shouldn’t happen. Events are one of the front-page features on Facebook, but the application was missing from my account. I’m now curious about the default applications and how they’re used. Also, if you have made an event in Facebook you may have noticed that it lacks a user path. Sort of annoying, but definitely trumped by the bad ads with blurry graphics and dancing bodysuit-clad women.

  • Me: Any idea on how to make an event in facebook?
  • Sarah: hahahaha
  • Me: I’ve spent the last 15 minutes trying to figure it out
  • Me: what?
  • Sarah: I like how you’re incredibly technically advanced but you can’t use Facebook
  • Me: Yes, I am a really smart person
  • Sarah: Ok, look on the main page, with your feed
  • Sarah: over to the lefthand side, it should say “applications”
  • Sarah: and the second link should say “events”
  • Me: Mine are: Photos, Groups, Marketplace, Causes, Neighborhoods, Scrabulous (love!), Twittersync, Posted Items and Notes
  • Me: No events
  • Sarah: do you have an option at the bottom of it that says “More”?
  • Me: yep, i opened that
  • Me: no events
  • Sarah: http://www.facebook.com/events.php?ref=sb
  • Sarah: k, just go there.
  • Sarah: or, better, here: http://www.facebook.com/editevent.php
